Comparative Efficacy of Unani Drug Urinile in Gouty Arthritis (Niqras)

Abstract

This clinical trial aims to recruit 200 patients in primary care settings in different hospitals of Sargodha. The coded herbal medicine “Urinile contain Trachyspermum ammi (Ajwain), Berberis vulgeris (Barbbery), Colechicum autumnale (Suranjan shireen) and Apium graveolens (Karafs). These drugs have known medicinal and therapeutic uses, especially in gout. These medicinal herbs in coded herbal medicine have broad spectrum of action due to various mechanisms enhancing some effects i.e. anti- inflammatory, uricosuric and antirheumatic. Patients with gouty arthritis are the single most frequent user group of primary health care resources, and pain is one of the typical clinical features. However, Pain and bone deformity cause a significant disruption to family life and are extremely costly for service providers, parents and employers. Despite evidence of allopurinol effectiveness in gout, it has many side effects, while the inappropriate use of allopurinol is now at the top of the agenda worldwide. This study aims to judge the efficacy and safety of coded herbal medicine for the treatment of gout, evaluate the tolerability issues related to the utilization of coded herbal medicine and to produce safe, effective and cheap treatment option for the community. Therapeutic effect of Urinile 300 mg was investigated in comparison with allopathic medicine (Allopurinol) 300 mg to treat gout. Total patients were 200 that were divided into test and control group. Herbal coded medicine (Urinile) was given to the test group and allopathic medicine allopurinol was administered to control group.
