Abstract: The repeated use of reflection in teacher education and recent findings have globally acknowledged that reflective teaching is useful for professional development of teachers. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of reflective teaching in professional development of teachers at secondary school level. Objectives for this study hold: to find out the effect of reflective teaching in professional development of teachers, to find out the extent of reflective teaching to be used in teaching learning process and to find out the teachers’ perceptions about reflective teaching in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The research questions up-stretched for the investigation of phenomena. In this study researcher used six reflective tools as such: reflection in action, reflection on action, teacher’s reflective diary, student’s feedback, colleague’s peer observation and audio recordings. Population for the study was 5537 while sample was 200, male secondary school teachers. Convenience sampling was used to collect data. The study was qualitative in nature and was analyzed as descriptively. The data was collected through observation and interview and were analyzed by using percentage and themes for study. Results of the study revealed that most of teachers were not using reflective tools in teaching and consequently, professional development of teachers was not effected mostly, as observed by researcher. In interview researcher found that most of teachers were unaware about reflective teaching but agreed that reflective teaching is valid to be used by teachers. Researcher found that reflective teaching is possible to be used by teachers and play a significant role in teaching learning process. The researcher recommended that reflective teaching is very helpful, in replacing old traditional method of teaching by method of reflective teaching and play a vital role in removing the gape of theory and practices within teaching.
