Comparative Study of Teacher's Burnout and Organizational Climate at Public and Private Sector Universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Abstract

The present study aims at exploring university teachers’ level of professional burnout, organizational climate and to compare public and private sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The population of the study constituted of 4045 public sector and 1633 private sector university teachers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Five hundred sixty-eight were selected as a sample by using stratified random sampling technique. Instrument used for data collection consisted of two parts: Professional burnout and three sub areas emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment whereas organizational climate comprised eight sub variables. The validity and reliability of the developed questionnaire was carried out through pilot study. Cronbach’s Alpha value of all the sub variables lies in acceptable range. Mean Standard deviation, T-test and ANOVA were used as statistical technique for data analysis. Two constituents of burnout i-e emotional exhaustion and depersonalization were found low while the constituent personal accomplishment was found high in both public and private sector universities. It was concluded that overall organizational climate was found better in Public Sector Universities as compared to the private sector universities. It was also concluded that the organizational climate was found better in public universities. It is recommended that both the universities public and private may provide congenial climate to employees in order to minimize the level of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and maximize the level of personal accomplishment as desired.
