Abstract: Entrepreneurship is one of the most important inputs in the economic development of a country. Entrepreneurs are facilitator for social revolution and provide inspiration to trade and industry expansion by their entrepreneurial resolutions. Many researchers claimed and recommended that entrepreneurship could be taught as a subject. Entrepreneurial education and training motivate students towards entrepreneurial related activities. In this scenario universities are most powerful resources to stimulate entrepreneurship in their students. Previous researches investigated different factors that effect on entrepreneurial aptitude of students and growth of entrepreneurship program. The purpose of this study is to examine the entrepreneurial aptitude of university students in national perspective: theoretical explanation of successful entrepreneurs. The study was descriptive in nature and data was gathered through a survey. The population of the study was comprised on all students of masters and BS honours classes of management science and economics departments from all public and private universities of Punjab and Islamabad and successful entrepreneurs in Punjab. Purposive sample techniques was used. About 1280 questionnaires were distributed among students of targeted population and 1156 were returned. For quantitative data; a questionnaire was used. Six factors of entrepreneurial aptitude were measured. Three factors; leadership, adaptability and achievement goal orientation were adapted from Cobico et al (2010) by author permission and three factors; locus of control, self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention were adapted from researcher’s previous entrepreneurial aptitude scale. The collected quantitative data were analysed by using mean, standard deviation, independent sample t-test, and ANOVA in SPSS-20 version, open ended data was analysed by Microsoft excel sheet by thematic frequency and percentage. Twenty successful entrepreneurs of Punjab were approached for interview. An interview sheet was developed in light of literature review and expert opinion. Qualitative data was analysed by NVIVO-11 version. word tree map, word cloud map and word cluster query were used for interview analysis. The results showed that respondents of all universities have positive entrepreneurial aptitude. Respondents presented locus of control, achievement goal orientation, self-efficacy, adaptability, leadership and entrepreneurial intention for entrepreneurship. Demographic variables results showed that mostly respondents have almost same positive entrepreneurial aptitude except of male and female respondents. Male vii respondents have better entrepreneurial aptitude then female respondents. The qualitative data and open ended data results indicated that graduates prefer job over business because of financial, social, experience issues and non-cooperative policies of government in shape of financial sport and polices of market. Universities are not providing proper entrepreneurial education. Word cluster query findings delivered the main theme about theoretical explanation of successful entrepreneurs. Finding showed that entrepreneurs got business inspirations from family business, jobs, or friends. Their interest, goals, thinking style and maximum approach are the reasons of starting their own business. With their confidence and experiences they manage business issues and problems properly. They provide product with quality in market and facilities to their employees. These commitment give them respect, profit and earning from the market. Respondents of the study suggested that university should design new courses, arrange seminars, provide practical work and skills instead of theorization. Government should provide opportunities and link with market. The study recommended further research in the field of entrepreneurship so that business culture and economic condition of the country may be built.
